Are there limits in the way my web pages have to be designed when using icoya OpenContent?
There is no limit in how web pages can be designed when using icoya OpenContent. icoya OpenContent uses page templates allowing the user to design all pages and page elements like basic layout, navigation, and content to their preference. Page templates are the solution to the reverse engineering problem. The configuration of dynamic templates is free of proprietary tags. The produced page templates do not contain any non-standard HTML elements, i.e. the templates follow the W3C standard for HTML and XHTML. This allows the use of HTML or XHTML editors for the design and the later editing of icoya web pages. There is no need for the time consuming task of reverse development of (X)HTML code in the templates to accommodate the graphic designers’ needs. This saves time and money! By the way: The icoya OpenContent boxed version contains the multi-lingual version of the (X)HTML editors AMAYA .The editor supports standards like HTML 4.01, XHTML 1.1, MathML, CSS 2, and SVG and implements the XML methods XPointer and RDF.
Can existing HTML pages be imported into icoya OpenContent?
Yes. HTML pages and meta information, like keywords, topic, author, or title can be imported into icoya OpenContent. For this, the pages are split into meta information and content, so it is easy to edit the existing parts using the icoya OpenContent user interface. By using an integrated WebDAV interface, icoya OpenContent allows you to easily import and export existing data in HTML or other formats into the icoya OpenContent management system. This requires WebDAV enabled software, like the Microsoft Internet explorer (the version which comes with Windows2000, or higher). Additionally, a variety of other applications (Dreamweaver, Linux Desktop, Gnome, and KDE) support WebDAV.
Is it possible to use icoya OpenContent to design and maintain an Intranet portal?
Yes. This is one of the main application areas of icoya OpenContent. To create you own Intranet portal all you need is to install icoya OpenContent onto your Intranet server or local network. As icoya OpenContent is a complete software package, including server and database, there is no need for any Internet connection. The editor only requires an Internet browser to create and edit content or navigation.
I would like to install icoya OpenContent using my service provider. What do I have to look out for?
icoya OpenContent is a powerful software solution and contains a content management system, web server, and database. In contrast to many other WebCMS solutions based on PHP/MySQL, icoya OpenContent is a complete content management system with integrated HTTP, WebDAV, FTP, and Mail server. It does not require any other software to be installed. To install icoya OpenContent onto the server supplied by your service provider, your service contract has to allow the installation of software onto the server. This is the case with most providers, however not all offer this option. icoya OpenContent is based on the Zope server (www.zope.org) The installation usually requires shell access (ssh, telnet), access to use non-privileged ports (1024 and above), as well as the right to execute commands. If these requirements are met, you can install icoya OpenContent onto the provider server. Already installed Internet servers can be configured to relay HTTP requests to icoya OpenContent. This feature allows icoya OpenContent to be installed next to existing servers. The Apache web server for example supports this forwarding using the modules mod_rewrite and mod_proxy. In general, these modules are preinstalled on the Apache server. Using the .htaccess file located in the home directory, the server can be configured to relay the web requests to icoya OpenContent. Please contact your Internet service provider if you are uncertain about any of the above requirements. Please read the icoya OpenContent system requirements.
What languages does icoya OpenContent support?
At the moment, icoya OpenContent supports English, German and Japanes user interfaces. It is possible to choose the desired language at the beginning of the installation process and whenever you create a new portal. Other languages are available upon request. Please contact us for an up to date list of supported languages.
